In this report a little part of the human rights violations instances in Iran has been compiled

 

Suppression of Student Periodicals

 

1)      Kavesh“, a Student Periodical, published by the students of the Gorgan Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources University, lost its Publication License by the order of the Committee Controlling Student Publications (ISNA 2006/1/22)

 

2)      2-The Student Periodical “E’teraz”, published by the students of the Gorgan Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources University, was suppressed for one year by the Committee Controlling Student Publications, because of protesting against the system of management of student affairs in the university. (Shargh 2006/1/24)

 

3)      “Nasim-e-Shomal”, published by the students of the Isfahan Industrial University, under the direction of Mohammad Reza Ghalamkar, was suppressed, due to a complaint by the Qur’an Unit, the Leadership Foundation and Governmental Foundations (Nasim-e-Shomal 2006/2/17)

 

Students - Arrests

 

4)      Sa’id Habibi and Mohammad Hashemi member of the Daftar Tahkim Vahdat (Central Council of the Office for Strengthening Solidarity amidst University students), Majid Ashraf-nejad, the Secretary of the Islamic Association of the Students of the Raja’i University, Kaveh Abbassian, Hessam Tahamtan, Ali Nouri, Milad Karimi, Sa’eb Karimi, Mazdak Tousi-nejad, Soroush Dashtestani, Hooman Kazemian  and Behrouz Karimi-zadeh, students of Tehran Universities were arrested by security officials because of supporting the claims and requests of the striking workers of the public transport trade union.(Advar News 2006/1/29)

 

5)      Reyhaneh Pourghani, Zanjan University student and the responsible Director of the suppressed student periodical “Ghezel Owzan” was arrested and imprisoned, after questioning, by the order of the Revolution Prosecutor of Zanjan with a 300 million Rials Bond order (Advar News 2006/1/30)

 

6)      Mostafa Sedaghatjoo, Member of the General Council of the Unity Strengthening Office, was arrested by the Intelligence Dept. because of protesting the arrests of the activists of the Syndicate of the Tehran Bus Transportation Unique Company and publishing and distributing the declaration of the Sabzevar Teacher Training University and was temporarily released after some hours of questioning (Advar News 2006/2/6)

 

7)      Yashar Hakkakpour, Member of the Islamic Group of the Students of the Zanjan University, was released (from prison), after remaining in jail for 29 days, with an 80 million Touman bond order. He had been questioned by various teams of prosecutors of Zanjan, Maragheh and Tabriz while in prison (Advar News 2006/2/18)

 

Students: Trials

 

8)      Payman Aref, a student of the Tehran University, was tried in the Branch No.26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court with closed doors, for the following charges: action against national security, disruption of order through delivering speeches and participation in the student protests of the month of Khordad of  the year 1382 (May 22 through June 21, 2003). (Tabriz News 2006/1/23)

 

9)      Heidar Zahedi, a student of the Tabriz University, was tried in the Branch No.9 of the Tabriz Appeals Court, for the following charges: insult, spreading lies, participation in an illegal gathering, and action against national security. He had been sentenced to two years prison and expulsion from the university in the preliminary court. (ILNA 2006/1/28).

 

10)  Amir Is’haghi, Navid Gholami and Mohammad Reza Rahimi Rad, members of the republican students association of the Yazd University, were tried in the Branch No.3 of the Yazd Revolutionary Court, for the following charges: propagation against the sacred regime of the Islamic Republic, and banning the elections (ILNA 2006/1/29)

 

11)  Farid Hashemi, a student of the Tehran University, was tried in the Branch No.26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, for the following charges: propagation against the regime, action against national security, and disruption of order in the university (Tabriz News 2006/2/15)

 

12)  Mehdi Shirzad, a student of the Tehran University, was tried in the Branch No.26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, with closed doors and without the presence of a lawyer, based on the Islamic Criminal Code, for the following charges: action against national interior security, through participation in illegal gatherings, causing disorder, insulting Khamene’i and disruption of order and peace of the public. He had been held in a solitary cell and questioned for 50 days in the course of the students protests of the month of Khordad of  the year 1382 (May 22 through June 21, 2003). Students: Court Sentences

 

13)  Mohammad Reza Rahimi Rad, member of the republican students association of the Yazd University, was sentenced to 6 months suspended prison in the Branch No.2 of the Yazd Revolutionary Court, for the charge of insulting Khamene’i (ISNA 2006/2/6)

 

14)  Activities of the Islamic Association of the Razi University Students of Kermanshah were banned for 4 months, because of a complaint filed by the Student Volunteers Group (aka Bassij-e-Daneshjou’i) by the Board of Supervision of Student Organizations of the University for the charge of insulting some legal foundations of the country. The ban order was later suspended for a year. (ISNA 2006/2/11)

 

15)  Amir Is’haghi, member of the republican students association of the Yazd University, was sentenced to 6 months suspended prison in the Branch No.3 of the Yazd Revolutionary Court, for the following charges: action against national security and propagation against the regime. The Press: Suppressions

 

16)  18- The publication license of the periodical “Tamaddon-e-Hormozgan” (The civilization of Hormozgan), published by Ali Dirbaz as Responsible Editor (Director), was cancelled by the Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance (The Islamic Republic 2006/1/25)

 

Arrests of Journalists

17)  Seven people who had been involved in the publication of the suppressed periodical “Tamaddon-e-Hormozgan”, under the direction of Ali Dirbaz, former representative of Bandar Abbas in the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majles), as the Responsible Editor (Director), were arrested for the charge of insulting the sanctities of the  regime of the Islamic Republic. This periodical had resembled the Islamic Revolution to the Aids Syndrome which entered Iran in the year 1357(1978/79), in a satiric article, in its last issue. The Responsible Director of the Periodical demanded that the writer of the article should be executed. He was released with a 30 million Touman bail order (Farda News 2006/1/29)

18)  Mohsen Dorostkar. Member of the Policy Board of the suppressed weekly “Tamaddon-e-Hormozgan”, was transferred to the Cell No.350 of the Evin prison after a few days of being under arrest, for the charge of insulting the Supreme Leader.( Students Committee for defence of political prisoner 2006/2/10)

19)  Ali Afsahi, member of the Association Defending the Prisoner’s Rights, who was the Chief Editor of ”Cinema Varzesh” in the course of the group suppression of the press, in the year 1379 (2000/01) and was arrested because of delivering a speech, and sentenced to 4 months prison, was summoned by the Branch No.14 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court and was arrested after questioning.(Shargh 2006/2/15)

 

20)  Following the spread of rumors about the suicide attempt by Elham Afroutan, the 21-year-old journalist in Evin prison, who is under arrest since  3rd. of Bahman (January 23, 2006), when the 58th issue of the Weekly ”Tamaddon-e-Hormozgan” was suppressed while she was the Editor in charge of the magazine’s Health & Hygiene Page, the Association for Defending Prisoners’ Rights, the Unity Strengthening Office, the Trade Association of Journalists, the Secretary of the Parliamentary Service of Ilna News Agency, the Association for Defending Journalists Rights  requested the government authorities to determine the fate of Elham Afroutan. The Press- Summoning of Journalists

 

21)  Yousef Azizi Bani Taraf, a Journalist and member of the Iranian Writers Club, was summoned by the third Branch of the court-house of Region 7, Tehran General and Revolutionary Court for questioning in relation to the charge of action against national security. Previously, he had been in the jail for 65 days. He was released with a 20-million Touman bond order. (ILNA 2006/1/30)

 

22)  Journalist Amir Abdollahzadeh, who has been one of the persons arrested during the popular protests of the month of Mordad of the current year (23rd.July through 22nd, August 2005) in the County of Boukan, was summoned for trial by the 2nd. Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Mahabad on the charge of propagation against the regime (ILNA 2006/1/31)

 

23)  Isa Saharkhiz, the responsible Editor of the suppressed daily “Akhbar-e-Eghtesad “ and the suppressed monthly “Aftab “(the Sun), was summoned for trial by the Branch No. 1083 of the General Court of Tehran due to a complaint by the Attorney General for the following charges: publication of false materials, propagation against the regime, insult and publication of lies for the purpose of disturbing the minds of the public.(ILNA 2006/2/1)

 

24)  Gholam Haidar Ibrahim Bie Salami, the previous responsible Editor of the  daily  “Hambastegi “, was summoned for trial by the Branch No. 1083 of the General Court of Tehran for the following charge: publication of lies for the purpose of disturbing the minds of the public. (ISNA 2006/2/1)

 

25)  Alireza Khosh-andam, the responsible Editor of the periodical “Ravan-Shenasi-e-Jame’e “, was summoned for trial by the 7th.Branch of the Government Employees Courthouse Prosecution Office for the charge of publication of false matters. (ILNA 2006/2/4)

 

26)  Mas’oud Bastani, the Chief Editor of the suppressed weekly “ Neday-e-Islahat “, was summoned for trial by the Branch No. 1161 of the General Court of Tehran for the following charge: disturbing public order and peace through participation in gatherings protesting the fate of Akbar Ganji, across from the Milad Hospital. He was released from the Arak prison some time ago. (ILNA 2006/2/6)

 

27)  Mohammad Na’imipour, the responsible Editor of the suppressed daily “Yas -e- No”, was summoned for trial by the Branch No. 76 of the Criminal Court of the Tehran Province due to a complaint by the Attorney General for the following charges: publication of lies for the purpose of disturbing the minds of the public, publication of false materials, propagation against the regime, slander and insult. The Press: Questioning of Journalists

 

28)  Amin Movah-hedi, the local reporter for the periodicals in the Ardabil Province, was arrested by the security forces following the order of the 2nd. Branch of the Deputy Attorney’s Office of the Ardabil Revolutionary Court and was beaten, injured and tortured. He was held in Ardabil open air temperature of 10 centigrade for some time. His charge is publication of items in relation to the pollution of regional waters with cancer-causing agents. The plaintiff filing a complaint against him is a company that is constructing a power plant in the region. After the company started operating, pollution of water, fruits and cattle in the region with radio-active materials, has increased the number of cancer patients. Amin Movah-hedi had previously been sentenced to one   year punitive prison for the charge of disturbing the minds of the public and disclosing of secret documents. He was released with a bail order. 29)  Ali Olya, the chief prosecutor of the General & Revolutionary Court of Bandar Abbas said: “The files of two of the defendants in the case of the suppressed periodical “Tamaddon-e-Hormozgan” have been referred to the Tehran Courthouse” (Keyhan 21006/2/2)

 

30)  Lotfollah Meisami, the responsible Editor of the bimonthly “Chashm-andaz-e-Iran, was questioned by the 7th. Branch of the Government Employees Courthouse Prosecution Office for the publication of writings against the constitution, and false matters (ILNA 2006/2/5)

 

31)  Security officials have instructed the press to avoid covering the news related to the situation of those people arrested in the bus syndicate case. One responsible editor has said : “ The sphere of activity of the media is getting narrower day by day and the red lights introduced by the security and judicial authorities have put an end to the periodicals fulfilling their main mission which is covering the news of the community and  the citizens’ demands.(Emrouz  2006/2/18)

 

The Press: Trials of Journalists

 

32)  Elyas Hazrati, the responsible Editor of the daily “Etemad “, was tried by the Branch No. 76 of the Criminal Court of the Tehran Province, presided by Judge Mohammad Reza Saremi, due to a complaint by the Attorney General, for the following charges: propagation against the regime, insulting the authorities and publication of lies for the purpose of disturbing the minds of the public.(ILNA 2006/2/1)  

 

33)  Farid Modarresi and Hossein Abdollahpour, web-loggers of Ghom, were tried by the 1st. Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Ghom, due to a complaint filed by the Attorney General, for the following charges: Insult, propagation against the regime, contacts with anti-revolution persons like Ahmad Shamlou & Ayatollah Montazeri. The Press: Sentences Issued by the Courts

 

34)  27-year-old Arash Sigarchi, Chief Editor of the daily “Gilan-e-Emrouz”, was sentenced to 3 years punitive prison by the 1st. Branch of the Appeals Court of the province of Gilan for insulting Khamene’i, and propagation activity against the regime, and was sent to the Rasht prison. He had been jailed for 3 months in the previous year and had been released from prison with a hundred million Touman bail order. (Iran-e-ma 2006/1/26)

 

35)  Mehdi Rahmanian, the responsible editor of the daily “Shargh “, was sentenced to pay one hundred thousand Toumans as cash punishment, by the Branch No. 76 of the Criminal Court of the Tehran province, for the charge of publication of lies for the purpose of disturbing the minds of the public.(ISNA  2006/1/23)

 

36)  The reporter and the photographer of the Pana News Agency, who had gone to Sa’di Theatre in Shiraz, to prepare a report of the presentation of a film in the last night of the Fajr Festival, were arrested by the Special Unit of the Disciplinary Force after being beaten and harassed.  (Fars 2006/1/30)

 

Blocked and Stopped Sites

 

37)  The Persian Website of the B.B.C. Radio is blocked by the order of the Iranian authorities. When the Persian Internet program of BBC.is contacted (clicked), in Iran, this message appears on the computer screen: “Dear subscriber: access to this site is not possible” The number of subscribers and viewers of this site had reached close to 30 million people per month. A committee comprised of representatives from the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Culture & Islamic Guidance and the Organization of Voice & Image determines cases subject to filtering. 38)  The site of the monthly “Nameh”, who’s responsible Editor is Keyvan Samimi, was hacked after the interview with Mehdi Karroubi. In the process of hacking, all the issues of the monthly periodical, accessible through the site, were wiped out. (Emrouz 2006/1/26)

 

News about Cultural & political Activists

 

39)  The direct and indirect pressures of the Government on religious groups with other thoughts have been increased in the recent months. Discontinuation of Friday prayers, under the direction of Imam Mostafa Tabataba’i in Karaj, prohibition of holding meetings for interpretation of the Qur’an, under the direction of Mr. Sho’ar in Tabriz, discontinuation of Dr. Sayyed Ali Asghar Gharavi’s Friday prayers and his Qur’an interpretation sessions in Isfahan,  possession by force and destruction of the Hosseinieh of the Ne’matollahi dervishes of Ghom, prohibition of the admission of Mr. Jazbi into the Hosseinieh of the Ne’matollahi dervishes of Isfahan are instances of the pressure that can be mentioned. 40)  Mohammad Hassan Ja’fari, a political activist in the province of Isfahan, was fired because of voicing his ideas and political activity. He had been one of the arrested persons in the university place incident in the month of Tir, 1378 (June 22 through July22, 1999) and has been repeatedly arrested and questioned. Recently, he had been questioned by the Information Dept. of Isfahan. (Hadi Montakhabi 2006/1/29)

 

41)  Dr. Roya Tolou’i, an activist for women’s case and the Chief Editor of the suppressed monthly “Rasan” declared: “On 10th. of Mordad (August 1, 2005), I was arrested by the security forces and sent to prison on charges of action against national security and spreading lies through interviews with different radio stations.” She added: “I was under arrest for 66 days, the first 17 days of which I was in a solitary cell. On the 15th of Mordad (August 6, 2005) I was the victim of the most brutal tortures by Amiri, the Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Kurdistan Province. I was threatened that my children shall be burnt alive before my eyes.” (Farda Radio 2006/1/29)

42)  Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri said in an interview with the weekly Newsweek: “The claim of observing human rights in Iran has been turned into a joke, since while my rights in this country are not observed although I have been one of the founders of this regime, how can it be hoped that the rights of other citizens will be observed?” (Advar News 2006/1/29)

43)  The Office of the Participation Front of the Islamic Iran- Golpayegan County Branch and the weekly” Seday-e-Golpayegan “(The Voice of Golpayegan) was destroyed by fire. The officials of this office had warned the county officials of the threats by unknown people, several times. (Tabriz News 2006/1/23)

 

44)  Afshin Zare’i, the web logger, who had been imprisoned, temporarily, for 13 months on the charge of forsaking and converting his religion, was released until the time of convening the court with a 50 million Touman bail order (ISNA 2006/1/31)

 

45)  Kamyar Nazemi, one of the arrested persons in the 2nd. of Bahman (January 22, 2006) ceremonies (anniversary of the Autonomous Republic of Kurdistan) was released from prison with a 20 million Rials bail order (Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK 2006/2/10)

 

46)  Following the instruction of Hojjat Islam Shari’ati, the  new Chancellor of the Allameh Tabataba’i University of Tehran, Dr. Hassan Namakdoust Tehrani, the professor of communications of the university was  fired.(Mizan News 2006/2/15)

 

Summons of Political, Cultural, & Social Activists by Courts

 

47)  Kambiz Nowrouzi, member of the Association for Freedom of the Press and university professor was summoned for trial by the Branch No. 1083 of the General Court of Tehran, due to a complaint by the Attorney General for the following charges: publication of lies for the purpose of disturbing the minds of the public, propagation against the regime, and slander. (ILNA 2006/2/5)

 

Trials of Political, Cultural, & Social Activists by Courts

 

48)  Sa’id Kalanki, Amin Kurd & Hassan Gheisari were tried by the Branch No. 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, due to a complaint by the Attorney General for the charge of action against national security. (ILNA 2006/1/25)

 

49)  Saman Rasoulpour, a member of Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK the Mahabad Branch, was tried by the Branch No.101 of the Mahabad Criminal Court, presided by judge Ghazi Sanavati, for the following charges: publication of lies for the purpose of disturbing the minds of the public, accusing the official authorities of the country through interviews with the media, abroad, and illegal exit through the border. (Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK 2006/1/30).

 

50)  Kianoush Sanjari was tried by the Branch No. 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, with closed doors and without the presence of a lawyer, because of participation in a sit-in across from the Office of the United Nations in Tehran, for the charge of action against national security. This member of the Democratic Front of Iran had been released with a 50 million Touman bail order, after 4 months of temporary prison. (ILNA 2006/2/3)

 

51)  23-year-old Shahla Golabadi and 25-year-old Roxana Amirkhani, two of the persons arrested in the anniversary ceremonies of the genocide of the political prisoners in the summer of the year 1367 (1988), in Golzar-e-Khavaran, were tried by the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan for the following charges: taking films and photographs of the ceremonies and cooperation with anti-regime sites and groups abroad (Association of Iranian Political Prisoners (in Exile) 2006/2/10)

 

Arrests of Political, Cultural, & Social Activists

 

52)  Davoud Azimzadeh, one of the high school teachers of the Education & Development Dept. of the County of Maragheh, was arrested by the Maragheh Information Dept. (The Islamic Society of the Students of the Zanjan University 2006/1/23)

 

53)  Hossein Shahriari, member of the High Council of the Pan-Iranist Party, was arrested by the security forces and transferred to an unknown location. His books, publications and computer were confiscated by the security forces. (Tabriz News 2006/2/5)

 

54)  The wives and the children of Messrs. Yaghoub Salimi, Davoud Razavi, Mansour Hayat Ghaibi, and Sa’id Torabian, members of the Board of Directors of the Laborers Syndicate of the Tehran Bus Unique Company were arrested by the security forces following the order of the Tehran Chief Prosecutor’s Office. (Mizan News 2006/1/28)

 

55)  Manaf Pour-Amini, Aziz Abdollahi, Ghader Khoraman Fard, Aziz Amini, Sharif Amini, Hassan Heibati, Fateh Heirani, Keivan Olyali and an additional number of town and village toilers of Mahabad were arrested by the security forces. The security forces have inspected and assaulted the homes and the private surroundings of the defense-less people. (Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK 2006/2/8)

 

Political, Cultural, & Social Activists – Questioning & Explaining Charges

 

56)  Ibrahim Madadi, Sa’id Torabian, Davoud Razavi, Ali Zad Hossein, Abdorreza Tarazi, Gholam Mirza’i & Mansour Hayat Ghaibi, Members of the Board of Directors of the Laborers Syndicate of the Tehran and Suburb Bus Unique Company, were questioned by the Branch No.14 of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Tehran Revolutionary Court. (Advar News 2006/1/26)

 

Political & Cultural Activists – Sentences Issued by Courts

 

57)  Ali Sarmadi, the Political Secretary of the Iran National Unity Front, was sentenced to 5 years suspended prison and a cash penalty payment by the Branch No.26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran.    (The Iran National Unity Front 2006/1/21)

 

58)  Rasoul Mehrparvar, Representative of Daragaz in the sixth cycle of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majles), was sentenced by the Appeals Court of Tehran to pay one 1,000,000 Rials as cash penalty & nine 9,000,000 Rials in lieu of 4 months jail, for insulting.(ISNA 2006/1/31)

 

59)  Hojjat Islam Gholam-Hossein Gheisari, member of the office of Ayatollah Montazeri and religious teacher of the Najafabad Theology District, was sentenced, by the Religious Personnel Court of Isfahan, to 6 months suspended prison and payment of 2,000,000 Rials as cash penalty for the political promotion of Ayatollah Montazeri (ILNA 2006/2/3)

 

60)  Mohammad Ali and Mohsen Revagh, who had been arrested in the popular protests of the month of Mordad (July 23 through August 22, 2005) in Piranshahr, were each sentenced to pay 20,000,000 Rials as cash penalty. (Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK 2006/2/10)

 

News about Political Prisoners

 

61)  Saman Ghaderpour, a political prisoner of Mahabad, who has been sentenced to 11 years prison for the charge of cooperation with the Komele Organization, and has been jailed the last 17 months, has started a foods strike since the 7th.of Bahman (January 27, 2006). (Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK 2006/1/31)

 

62)  Ma’soumeh Shafi’i, the spouse of Akbar Ganji, the journalist prisoner, declared: “Mr.Ganji continues to be held in the high security cell of the Security of the Information of the Revolutionary Guards Army in the hardest of situations with minimum facilities for the living of a human being. Unfortunately, his physical condition was worse as compared to the previous visit. In the past 17 days he has not been able to take a bath due to the hot water valve’s burst and carelessness of the officials. He has been held in a solitary cell for 157 days during which he has been deprived of having fruits and vegetables and therefore, he has been a victim of acute gastronomic syndromes. He is suffering extensively from severe backache, varicose veins, acute gastronomic syndrome and severe physical weakness. (Emrouz 2006/2/7)

 

63)  Jahangir Badozadeh, a political prisoner sentenced to death in the Oroumieh central prison, has started a foods strike. (Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK 2006/2/12)

 

64)  Peiman Piran, a political prisoner of the Evin prison, who has been sentenced to 5 years prison, by the Revolutionary Court, with the charge of action against national security, was beaten and harassed by security officials in the prison.(Tabriz News 2006/2/16)

 

Group Arrests

 

65)  On the eve of the id-e-ghadir, the security forces in Ghom attacked the Hosseinieh of the dervishes of the Ne’mati Gonabadi dynasty, beat and harassed the dervishes and arrested 115 of them. Abolhassan Bahrami was admitted by the I.C.U. of a hospital due to severe beating and his condition has been determined as grave & serious. (Radio Farda 2006/1/21)

 

66)  Mostafa Pour-mohammadi, the Minister of the Interior, is quoted saying: “10 people have been arrested by the security forces for charges related to the recent explosions in Ahwaz. (ILNA 2006/1/27)

 

67)  Following the announcement of the strike of the Laborers Syndicate of the Tehran and Suburb Bus Unique Company, the security forces arrested about 500 members of the syndicate, in an extended action. In order to terminate the strike, policemen and security forces, dressed in plain clothes, used tear gas in all the areas and beat and harassed the workers. (Advar News 2006/1/28)

 

68)  Yaghoub Salimi, member of the Laborers Syndicate of the Tehran and Suburb Bus Unique Company is quoted saying: “The strike of the workers of the Unique Company was crushed on Saturday by the shots into the sky and showering the workers with a barrage of tear gas by the police and the security forces. 1200 workers were arrested and transferred to the Evin prison. 71)  Abdorrahim Fazilatpour, the Political & Social Deputy Governor of Ahwaz, is quoted saying: “So far, close to 50 suspects have been arrested in relation to the recent explosions in Ahwaz. (Shargh 2006/2/1)

 

72)  Jamal Karimi Rad, the spokesman of the Judiciary is quoted saying: “45 persons are under arrest for placing the bombs in Ahwaz in the month of Mehr (September 23 through October 22, 2005). Sentences have been issued for 7 people for the following charges: fighting the God and causing corruption on the earth, murder of citizens, and founding illegal organizations and societies. Based on the Islamic Criminal Code, punishment for the abovementioned charges is death.” Sardar Brigadier General of the Revolutionary Guards, the Governor of the Khouzistan province is quoted saying: “Sentences of 7 of the arrested people have been issued by the courts of justice. 73)  Revolutionary Guards Brigadier General Abbas Mohtaj, the Governor of the Ghom Province is quoted saying: “Following the attack by plain-clothes security forces and the disciplinary agents against Ne’matollahi Gonabadi dervishes in the Shari’at Hossinieh, 200 persons were injured and 1,000 persons were arrested.” (Entekhab 2006/2/14)

 

74)  Close to 100 Government Agents called Hezbollah (the God’s party), accompanied by plain-clothes security personnel and anti-riot guards forces , commanded by Colonel Sajjadi, attacked the Ne’matollahi Gonabadi dervishes in the Shari’at Hosseinieh, in Ghom by a barrage of tear  gas, combat gun shots, complete disconnection of the power in the area, and disconnection of mobile phones. They arrested close to 1,000 dervishes. This number includes 250 wives and children. They destructed the Hosseinieh with bulldozers. The conditions of some injured dervishes, who have been hospitalized, has been assessed as grave and/or serious. Abolhassan Bahrami, high school teacher of literature and a relative of Haj Sayyed Ahmad Shari’at, one of the leaders of the Ne’matollahi dynasty, passed away in the hospital, due to the injuries received during the attack on the eve of Id-e-Ghadir. The clinic of Dr. Hassan Shari’at, a Ghom Physician with a long record of service and cousin of the great (senior) Shari’at was demolished along with the Hosseinieh by bulldozer (Web log Tanin-e-Sokout Web log 2006/2/14)

 

75)  Revolutionary Guards Brigadier General Alireza Taheri, Commander of the Ghom Disciplinary Forces is quoted saying; “More than 170 Ne’matollahi Gonabadi dervishes have been hurt in the Shari’at Hosseinieh and 500 people have been arrested by the Disciplinary Forces. (Fars 2006/2/15).

 

76)  Ali Banayi, the Ghom representative in the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majles), is quoted saying: “Following the attack by the disciplinary forces against the Ne’matollahi Gonabadi dervishes in the Shari’at Hosseinieh, 200 people have been hurt.” (Fars 2006/2/15).

 

77)  Following the holding of ceremonies for the anniversary of the arrest of Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of The Kurdistan Workers Party (P.K.K.) in the border city “Bazargan”, a number of participants started walking peacefully. When the disciplinary forces interfered, violence erupted and a number of participants were arrested by the security forces. (Nasokurd 2006/2/16).

 

Murders of People by Disciplinary & Security Forces

 

78)  15-year old Abdollah Nouti Zehi and 18-year-old Mas’oud Shahbakhsh were killed by the shots of the Disciplinary Forces in Zahedan. 16-year-old Rouhollah Nouti Zehi was seriously injured and transferred to hospital, as well. (Balouch News 2006/2/1).

 

79)  Heidar, Heshmat and Jahangir, who were charged with murder, were killed by the shots of the disciplinary forces, around the Vahdatieh Mountains in the Bushehr province. (The Islamic Republic 2006/2/7)

 

80)  Ali Karim-zadeh, Mohammad Kouri Mizou, Borhan Kouri Hassan, Adel Makou’i, Bayram Arsen, Yousef Kaffashi and Bahram, who had participated in the protests against the arrest of Abdullah Ocalan, were killed by shots from the Disciplinary Forces in the county of Makou. Also 25 people were hurt and a number were arrested. (Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK). (2006/2/17)

81)  The principal of one of the girls schools of the Chenaran county, who lived alone, was murdered in a mysterious manner (Shargh 2006/2/5)

 

Persons Sentenced to Death

 

82)  The 24-year-old Mohammad Reza was sentenced to death by the Branch No.74 of the Criminal Court of the Tehran Province, endorsed by the Branch No.33 of the Supreme Court of Iran for murder of Hamid. (Hamshahri 2006/1/23)

 

83)  Amanollah was sentenced to death by the Branch No.71 of the Criminal Court of the Tehran Province, for murder of 40-year-old Hossein Mohammadi. (Iran 2006/1/25)

 

84)  The fates of 3 women, at the threshold of execution for murder: Khadijeh Jahed, better known as Shahla, Kobra Rahmanpour, better known as Arous-e-Siah-bakht (the unlucky bride) and Fatemeh Haghighat-pojouh will soon be determined by the Judiciary. (Etemad 2006/1/25)

 

85)  The 23-year-old Abolghassem was sentenced to death by the Branch No.71 of the Criminal Court of the Tehran Province, endorsed by the Branch No.40 of the Supreme Court of Iran for murder of Forough. (Shargh 2006/1/25)

 

86)  The 18-year-old Moslem “S” was sentenced to death by the Branch No.3 of the General Court of Firouzabad, endorsed by the Branch No.32 of the Supreme Court of Iran for murder. Gholam-hossein Ra’isi, President of Human Rights Commission of the Bar of the Fars Province and his attorney wrote a letter to the Judiciary advising the force that Moslem was 16 years old at the time of committing the murder and therefore his execution was not proper in accordance with the convention of children’s rights. The President of Human Rights Commission of the Bar of the Fars Province requested that the sentence be cancelled (Etemad 2006/1/30)

 

87)  The 35-year-old Behjat and the 18-year-old Mohammad were sentenced to death by the Branch No.71 of the Criminal Court of the Tehran Province, presided by Judge Nourollah Aziz Mohammadi, for the murder of the 40-year-old Mehdi (Etemad 2006/2/3)

 

88)  Mehrdad was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court Branch No. 71 of the Tehran   Province, presided by Judge Noorollah Aziz Mohammady, for the murder of 17 year-old Ali. (Hamshahry 2006/2/4)

 

89)  25-year-old Mohammad Bakhshian received two public death sentences by Presiding Judge Reza’i in the Criminal Court of Isfahan for the murder of Mohammad Foroozan and for armed robbery. (Keyhan 2006/2/4)

 

90)  Arash was sentenced to be hanged in public by the Criminal Court Branch No. 102 of Isfahan for Kidnapping and raping by force. (Etemad 2006/2/5)

 

91)  Javad was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court Branch number 71 of the Tehran Province for the murder of 9-year-old Amin.(Hamshahry 2006/2/4)

 

92)  18-year-old Mohammad Hassan received two death sentences by the Criminal Court Branch No. 71 of the Tehran Province, presided by Judge Noorollah Aziz Mohammady, for the murder of two brothers 17-year-old Nasser and 16-year-old Nader. (Khorassan 2006/2/6).

 

93)  35-year-old Ramazan was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court Branch No.74 of the Tehran Province and with the endorsement of the Branch number 26 of the Supreme Court of Iran for the murder of Leila. (Shargh 2006/2/7)

95)  Akram was sentenced to death by Branch number 3 of the Justice Dept. of Malard a suburb of Karaj, presided by Judge Baba’i, for the murder of Abdurreza. (an 2006/2/7).

 

96)  19-year-old Fada, a native and citizen of Afghanistan, was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court Branch number 71 of the Tehran Province, for the murder of 16-year-old Hossein. (Shargh 2006/2/7)

 

97)  Majid was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court Branch No.71 of the Tehran Province and with the endorsement of the Branch number 27 of the Supreme Court of Iran, for the murder of Gholamreza. (Hamshahry 2006/2/7).     

 

98)  15-year-old Mohammad was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court Branch No. 71 of the Tehran Province, presided by Judge Noorollah Aziz Mohammady, for the murder of 18-year-old Iman. (Khorassan 2006/2/6)

 

99)  Two of the following three men: 18-year-old Mehran, 18-year-old Abbas, and 19-year-old Ali were sentenced to death by the Criminal Court Branch number 77 of the Tehran Province and with the endorsement of the Branch number 39 of the Supreme Court of Iran, for the kidnapping and rape of a 20-year-old girl by force. (Aftab 2006/2/7)

 

100)    Ali-Akbar was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court Branch number 74 of the Tehran Province, presided by Judge Kooh-Kamare’i, for the murder of the 55-year-old Jabbar Rashtchi. (Etemad 2006/2/15)

 

101)    22-year-old Mostafa Rasoulnia, one of the arrested protesters during the popular protests of the month of Mordad (July 23 through August 22, 2005) in Mahabad, was sentenced to death by the 2nd Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Oroumieh for beating a member of the Disciplinary Force. Also, three others who had been sentenced to death, Jahan-Ali Mohammady, Bakhsh-Ali Mohammady, and Abdollah Ghassem-zadeh, who were members of the religious sect named “Ahle Hagh” (followers of Justice) and were jailed a year ago at the central jail of Oroumieh, were moved out of the prison cell. It is feared that the three prisoners have been moved for execution. (Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK 2006/2/19)

 

102)    45-year-old Khan-Ali was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court Branch No .71 of the Tehran Province for killing his wife Kobra. (Shargh 2006/2/19)

 

103)    36-years-old Gholamreza was sentenced in the Criminal Court Branch No. 71 of the Tehran Province by Judge Noorollah Aziz Mohammadi and with the approval of Iran’s Supreme Court, to be executed three times for the murders of Ali Khairmandavani, Mahin Khaza’i, and Saber. (Iran 2006/2/19)

 

Execution of Political Dissident Prisoners:

 

104)    A member of the political group, Mojahedin-e-Khalgh-e- Iran, the 31-year-old Hojjat Zamani, who was sentenced to death four times by the sixth Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, and two times by the Supreme Court of Iran, was executed by hanging at the Rajai Jail in the city of Karaj by Jail officials on the 18th of Bahman (2006/2/7). (Mojahedin-Khalgh-e-Iran Organization 2006/2/15).

 

Death Sentences carried out by the Courts:

 

105)    Rahele and Babak were executed by hanging at the Evin Prison by the order of the Criminal Court of the Province of Tehran and with the approval of the Branch number 2 of the Supreme Court of Iran for the murder of Tannaz and her mother. (Iran 2006/1/21)

 

106)    24-year-old Arash Shahbazi, was hanged in public on Nazar-e-Sharghi Avenue in Isfahan by the order of  the Criminal Court Branch number 47 of Isfahan and with the approval of Branch number 37 of the Supreme Court of Iran, for the murder of 21-year-old Ehsan Mo’meni. (Hamshahry 2006/1/25)

 

107)    32-year-old Ali, son of Sa’dyar was hanged in the central jail of Bandar Abbas, by the order of the Criminal Court of Bandar Abbas, for the murder of 75-year-old Gholam. (Etemad 2006/2/1)

 

108)    A man was hanged in public in Kerman’s Shohada (Martyrs) Square for kidnapping, disturbing the public security, and hooliganism by order of the Judiciary Force. (Iran 2006/2/2)

 

109)    `` According to Hojjat Islam Salehi-nia, the former chief prosecutor of the County of Sabzevar and the new Chief of Mashad’s Beheshti Judicial Complex, three men were hanged in Sabzevar for hooliganism and ruffian acts. (Khorassan 2006/2/6)

 

110)    Abdi A. and Ali B. were hanged in Andimeshk by order of the Khouzistan Province Justice Dept for kidnapping, rape and use of force, in the south of the country. (Etemad 2006/2/19)

 

Community News

 

111)    Ali Taheri-pour, a street vendor selling glass flower- pots, was beaten and assaulted in the 7th of Tir Square in Teheran by the agents of the City Task Force assigned to removing sidewalk obstructions. One of the agents used a glass flower-pot to hit the abovementioned man on the head, knock him out and send him to the hospital. (Iran 2006/1/25)
