Students: News

1-Saber sheikh Loo public relations director of Daftar-e-Tahkim-e-Vahdat has proclaimed the pressures and restrictions on students’ movements in last year and said the statistics that they gained are as following (ISNA 29/8/2006):

- Student publications bans: 39 cases

- Summons to the disciplinary committees: 90 cases

- Sentences issued by the disciplinary committees: 56 cases

- Summons to Islamic Revolution’s Courts and General Courts: 45 cases

Students: Summons and Detentions

2 -Ali Azizi, Armin Salmasi, Babak Zamanian, Bijan Poor Yoosefi, Farhad Noori, Navid Delbari, Ehsan Mansoori, Abbas Hakim Zadeh, Ali Kargar, Ali Sabari, Ali Komijani, Soheil Ziaee, Mohsen Sohrabi, Nariman Mostafavi, Alireza Gharagoozloo, Mahdi Mashayekhi, Matin Moshkin, Mostafa Ghafoori, Tohid Ali Ashrafi, Hamed Ebrahimi, Sedighe Bigdeli, Nasibeh Haji Lari, Somayeh Mir Asheh former and present members of Islamic Association of Amir Kabir University were summoned. Students: Prevention of education

3-Arash Khandel, Siamak Nadali, and Mohammad Javad Dardkeshan the members of Islamic Association of Lorestan University were prevented from education for two semesters by the order of central disciplinary committee of the ministry of science research and technology.(ILNA 29/8/2006)

4-Student selection commission of the ministry of science research and technology which has been formed as a branch of intelligence ministry to omit political activists from universities in last two weeks has interrogated 10 republican students of Tehran University. Also 15 girl students from law faculty have been summoned to disciplinary committee.( Student committee of human right reporters 7/9/2006)

5-More than 40 students of Tehran University have been summoned to disciplinary committee and interrogated for many times. The names of some of them are as following:

6- Student selection commission of the ministry of science research and technology prevented from registration of Mohammad Nami Saber, Mohammad Reza Hedayati and Samaneh Asad Khani the master students of political science faculty of Tehran University. Student selection commission of the ministry of science research and technology proclaimed that the registration of these students is depended to the permission of the intelligence ministry. 7-Refer to the sentence of disciplinary committee of medical university of Hamedan, 11 students of this university have been sentenced o 1 or 2 semesters suspension from educating, the accusations of these students were protestation against the dissolution and confiscation of the office of The Islamic Association of the university.(Advar News 14/9/2006)

8-Islamic Iran Educates Organization announced that: with the order of intelligence ministry more that 100 students accepted for master educations have been deprived from educating. The accusations of these students were cultural and political activities. (Advar News 19/9/2006)

9-Central Council of Dftar-e-Tahkim has published a manifestation about the invasion of government and intelligence organizations to the universities through this manifestation it has been announced that: almost 200 students have been summoned to disciplinary committees in few days, and they have been sentenced to deprivation from education, or closing student publications, and…. In other part of this manifestation it is said that: the intelligence organizations has made the students in groups and they treat each group in different way.(ILNA 20/9/2004)

10-Student selection commission of the ministry of science research and technology, relying upon a letter from a governmental organization, announced that the expelling of Peyman Aref decisive. (ILNA 22/9/2006)

Students: Detention

11-Kheyrolah Derakhshandi the former student of Yazd University and master student educated from Qom’s Mofid University was detained and transferred to Evin Prison section 209 with the order of Qom’s Islamic Revolutionary Court.(ILNA 25/8/2006)

12-Abolfazl Jahandar the former member of central council of Islamic Association of Alameh Tabatabaee University and the director of “Pooya News” web site was detained by security forces.( Students Committee for defense of political prisoner 25/8/2006)

13-Jamal Zaher Poor the secretary of Islamic Association of Khajeh Nasir University and the member of central council of Daftar-e-Tahkim was detained by the security forces. (Student Committee of Political Prisoners Defenders 28/8/2006)

Students: Sentences Issued by the Courts

14-Omran Parandakh and Alireza Moradi he former members of Islamic Association of Kermanshah Razi University because of attending in student protestations in June, 2003 charged with attempting against the national security, and insulting authorities were sentenced to 6 and 3 months imprisonment and payment of 300,000 fines.(ISNA 29/8/2006)

15-Mohammad Zamani student of Hamedan Booali University, who was transferred to Zandjan University charged with political activities was expelled from the university. (ILNA 6/9/2006)

Restriction of student formations activities

16-With the order of Isfahan University deputy, after one year of strife between students and the authorities of the university on organizing the election, the Islamic Association of this university got disbanded.(Advar News 23/8/2006)

17-The observer committee on student formations of Sabzevar University, relying upon the regulation of Cultural Revolution High Council, has closed the office of the Islamic Association of this university.(ILNA 12/9/2006)

Movies, Books and Sites: Banned

18-The movie: “Gorgo Mish” directed by Ghasem Jafari for using a music and song by Benyamin Bahadori and “Birthday’s Song” directed by Ali Ghavitan for acting of the actor Bahman Mofid were banned with the order of observation and evaluation office of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry.(Noandish 28/8/2006)

19-Dr. Ebrahim Yzadi through an open letter has written to the minister of cultural and Islamic guidance that it has been more than 15 months that his book with the title of “Religious intellectuality and new ….” has been handed to the ministry of culture and Islamic guidance for the issuance of the publishing license by the printing company, but the authorities of this ministry did not issue the license.(ILNA 4/9/2006)

20-According to the statements of Esmaeel Radkani the general director of Information Technology Network, more than 10 million internet sites have been filtered with the order of judiciary force.(Entekhab 12/9/2006)

21-Falamak Bardaee director of “Baztab Negar” publishing company said: ministry of culture and Islamic guidance did not issued publishing license for the book “Evalona” written by Isabel Alendeh and translated by Khalil Rostam khani.(ILNA 18/9/2006)

Press: Banned

22-“Shargh” daily newspaper with directing in charge of Mahdi Rahmanian after publishing 855 volumes, because of publishing an insulting cartoon was closed with the order of press supervisory board.(ISNA 11/9/2006)

23-The license of monthly magazine “Hafez” with directing in charge of Hasan Amin after publishing 33 volumes because of publishing a poem of Nader Naderpoor was nullified with the order of press supervisory board.(ISNA 11/9/2006)

24-The monthly magazine “Nameh” with directing in charge of Kayvan Samimi after publishing 53 volumes because of publishing a poem of Simin Behbahani was closed with the order of press supervisory board.(ISNA 11/9/2006)

25-The license of monthly magazine “Khatereh” was nullified with the order of press supervisory board.(ISNA 11/9/2006)

26-Kayvan Smimi Behbahani director in charge of the closed monthly magazine “nameh” announced that: a few men nightly have entered the publication’s office and made a mess in there by throwing everything on the floor; he added that it seems they wanted to threaten us by doing such things.(ILNA 12/9/2006)

27-Alireza Kermani the head of the authors of “Nameh” monthly magazine said: “there is no doubt that Iranian authorities can not bare the existence of free press in Iran. And if a few of them do work, it’s because of that they scare of International and human rights organizations.” He added that repeatedly closing of correspondent press is made our journalists weak because of the lack of experience.(Iran Emrooz 18/9/2006)

Press: Journalists Summons

28-Journalist Amin Movahedi charged with inciting public opinion was summoned to Meshkin Shahr Islamic Revolution’s Court Branch 4, for trial.(Tabriz News 23/8/2006)

29-Borhan Lahvani director in charge and Behram Valadbeigi editor of the closed weekly magazine “Ashti” charged with publishing lies with the aim of inciting public opinion and attempting against the national security with the complaint of Kurdistan public and revolution’s prosecutor and Kurdistan Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, Kurdistan Intelligence office were summoned to Kurdistan Penal Court for trial. This weekly magazine which published in two Persian and Kurdish languages was closed in august 5^th with the order of public prosecutor.(ILNA 30/8/2006)

30-Roozbeh Mir Ebrahimi, Omid Memarian, Shahram Rafizadeh, and Javad Gholam Tamimi journalist and web log writers charged with attempting against the security of the state, publishing lies with the aim of inciting public opinion were summoned to Tehran’s General Court Branch 1059 for the trial. The indictment of these web log writers and journalists in based on their confessions which were extracted under duress and torture. These web log writers were in detention for few months in 2004 and were released on bail. (ILNA 2/9/2006)

31-Director in charge of “Baztab” web site charged with publishing lies against the government, with the request of Gholam Hosein Elham the spokesman of the government and the order of Saeed Mortazavi Tehran’s public prosecutor was summoned to governmental official workers for the interrogation.(ILNA 3/9/2006)

32-Mansoor Mozafari director in charge of “Aftab-e-Yazd” newspaper charged with publishing lies with the aim of inciting public opinion, propaganda against the state, insulting and fabrication with the complaint of public prosecutor was summoned to Tehran’s General Court Branch 1083 for the trial.(ILNA 10/9/2006)

33-Director in charges of publications “Sayeh Tehran”, “Pezeshk va Mardom” and the former director in charge of “Iran” newspaper charged with publishing lies, and fabrications with complaint of public prosecutor were summoned to Tehran’s Penal Court Branch 76 for the trial.(ILNA 10/9/06)

Press: Journalists Interrogations

34-Mahdi Rahamanian director in charge of “Shargh” newspaper, with complaints of Press Supervisory Board, Health Care Ministry, Shiraz Municipality, Industrial Ministry, Melli Bank, and Fatemeh Alia the Tehran’s deputy in 6^th Islamic Consultation Board was interrogated in Judiciary House of government officials.( ILNA 27/8/2006)

35-Hasanali Mahdavi director in charge of weekly magazine “Gharb” belongs to Development Party of Kermanshah, because of publishing a cartoon of Ahmadi Nejad was interrogated for 24 hours in Kermanshah General and Revolution’s Court Branch 7.(ILNA 12/9/2006)

36-Mostafa Kavakebian director in charge of “Mardomsalari” newspaper charged with publishing lies with the aim of disturbing public opinion, with complaint of Gholam Hossein Elham the government spokesman was interrogated.(Khorasan 16/9/2006)

37-Gholam Hossein Eslami Far director in charge of the closed newspaper “Iran”, charged with causing disunion and insulting Iranian Turks by publishing a comic cartoon with complaint of intelligence ministry and public prosecutor was tried in Tehran’s Penal Court Branch 76.(ILNA 27/8/2006)

38-Amir Saeed Naghi Zadeh director in charge of “Movie & Cinema” magazine, charged with misuse of the picture of actors and actresses and diffusion the indecent acts by publishing photos of Niki Karimi, Bahram Radan, Amir Goodarzi, Hadis Fooladvand, and Mehran Modiri was tried in Tehran’s Penal Court Branch 76 with public prosecutor’s complaint.(ILNA 27/8/2006)

39-Mohammad Hasan Malek Madani the former director in charge of “Hamshahri”, charged with publishing lies, publishing pictures incompatible with public chastity, misuse of women pictures, propaganda against the state, fabrication, insulting authorities and governmental organizations and encouraging people to act against the national security, with complaints of public prosecutor, legal representative of the army, legal representative of antidrug campaign headquarters of presidential office, the head of Tehran’s judiciary house, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, and SAHA air flight co was tried in Tehran’s General Court Branch 1083.(ISNA 4/9/2006)

40-Mehrdad Ghasem Far and Mana Neyestani the editor and cartoonist of “Iran Jomeh” news paper, charged with insulting Iranian Turks and publishing insulting cartoons, with complaint of public prosecutor was tried in Tehran’s Islamic Revolution’s Court Branch 15.(ILNA 17/9/2006)

Press: Sentences Issued by Courts

41-Isa Saharkhiz director in charge of the closed news paper “Akhbar-e-Eghtesad” and “Aftab” monthly magazine, charged with publishing materials against the principles of constitutional law, propaganda against the state, fabrication and publishing lies against IRIB was tried in Tehran’s General Court Branch 1083 and sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment and 5 years deprivation from press responsibilities. The licenses of these publications have been nullified. It should be mentioned that Socialist Party of France through a manifestation has called the issued sentence as a human rights violation evidence.(ILNA 28/8/2006)

42-Seyed Abbas Nabavi director in charge of the closed weekly magazine “Neday-e-Eslahat”, charged with publishing lies and insulting persons who have religious veneration was sentenced to payment of 4,000,000 Rials fines.(ILNA 30/8/2006)

43-Mohammad Sadigh Kaboodvand director in charge of the closed weekly magazine “Payam-e-Mardom-e-Kordestan” was sentenced to 1 year of imprisonment, and 5 years deprivation from press responsibilities on charges of publishing lies with the aim of disturbing public opinion, causing disunion by bringing up subjects on races and generations and complaint of Kurdestan Intelligence office.(ILNA 13/9/2006)

44-Masood Bastani editor of the closed weekly magazine “Neday-e-Eslahat”, charged with disturbing public order, sentenced to payment of 4,000,000 Rials fines.(ILNA 17/9/2006)

45-Abdolmahammad Zahedi director in charge of weekly magazine “Avay-e-Kermanshah” sentenced to payment of 3,000,000 Rials fine on charge of publishing lies with the complaint of Kermanshah Ansar Hezbollah, in Tehran’s General Court Branch 1083.(ILNA 17/9/2006)

News about Political, Cultural, and Social Activists

46-Mohammad Salamati general secretary of “Islamic Revolution’s Mojaheds” said: 9^th government has made the political environment of the country more repressive and its total actions specially carrying a bill on comprehensive elective regulation, there have been more pressures on parties and political groups. And also elimination of budget for the parties in New Year budget, non issuance of publication license for parties and political groups and threatening the government’s criticizers show that government is going to limit the activities of the parties and groups.(ILNA 26/8/2006)

47-Dr. Ebrahim Yazdi the leader of the Iranian Liberal Nationalist Freedom Movement party said: the increase of pressures on press and journalists, parties and even student formations could be seen, he added in universities they don’t let the Islamic associations to work and with several reasons they prevent of organizing elections of Islamic associations. In this year we have even seen that prisoners who went on a strike on the protestation to their situations have been died an no body feels responsible for this fact.(ILNA 26/8/2006)

48-secutity and intelligence forces prevented from organizing the conference on presenting the project of gathering 1 million signatures for changing rules related to women. Security forces took pictures of the attendees.(Advar News 27/8/2006)

49-Rasool Montajab Nia the general secretary’s deputy president of “Etemad-e-Melli” party said: the censorship which today exercising on press and the pressure on the parties has no precedence since the first days of the revolution until now. He added that: they threaten the pres not to publish any question on some specific subjects, other wise they will be closed. (ILNA 28/8/2006)

50-Ejlal Ghavami member of writing board of monthly magazine “Didgah-e-No” and the member of editorial board of the closed weekly magazine “Payam-e-Mardom-e- Kordestan” during few days have been threatened by phone.( Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK 28/8/2006)

51-Shirin Ebadi member of Human Rights Defenders Society said: she has been threatened to death through a letter received by post. in that letter 3470 political, cultural, social, student activists and also journalists, labor and women activists and human rights activists have been threatened to death, she added that the aim of sending such letters is to frightening human rights activists.(ILNA 30/8/2006) )

52-The anniversary ceremony of political prisoners’ massacre in summer 1988 organized with attendance of their families and a group of political and student activists. At the end of the ceremony the camera of one of the attendees was confiscated. Vigilante forces beat few of attendees and arrested them.(Student committee of human right reporters 31/8/2006)

53-Islamic Culture and Guidance Ministry has written a letter to the authorities of press in this letter it has been said that after long discussions with National Security Council there have been 24 reliable news agencies detected in the country and newspapers could use these new agencies as the reference. 54-Freedom of Press Association through a manifestation announced that: Iranian presses are struggling with many problems such as official censorship, squeezing journalists, editors and directors for self censorship, and also Islamic culture and guidance ministry has made a limitation for the presses which they could not pass through this limitation.(Advar News 6/9/2006)

55-the residential of Ayatollah Seyed Hosein Kazemeini Boroojerdi is in the siege of security forces since last month. His sister and a few staff of his office are in detention. Ayatollah Boroojerdi says: they took his fans to Evin prison section 209, he added: “they destroyed my father’s grave and one of the high level authorities came to me and asked me to surrender or they will execute every body.” Through a letter to Xavier Solana he announced that he has been once to Tohid prison in 1995 and another time to Evin prison sction 209 in 2000 and was tortured in prison.(Radio Farda 7/9/2006)

56-According to the statements of Narges Mohammadi the spokeswoman of Human Rights Defenders Society, this society wants the efficient presence of the attorney at laws from the first steps of the legal procedure in all cases. For, some prisoners such as Valiollah Feyz Mahdavi, despite of having two attorneys from the Human Rights Defenders Society he never could visit his attorneys. She added: the deaths of Feyz Mahdavi, Akbar Mohammadi, and Zahra Kazemi in prisons have made the inside or out side of the country’s human rights defenders concerned.(ILNA 10/9/2006)

57-Shirin Ebadi said: the death of Valiolah Feyz Mahdavi in prison, just one month after the death of Akbar Mohammadi, draw public attention to poor situation of Iran’s prisons once more. There is no doubt that the responsibility of the health of prisoners is with the authorities of the prisons. In conformity to the law the prisons’ authorities are charged to make he conditions in the way that a prisoner passes his confinement duration with mental and physical health and returns to the society in a normal situation. She added: if the situation of a prisoner be in a way that he doesn’t have any other way than killing himself to show his protestation the direct responsibility of such situation will be with the prison’s authority.(Rooz 11/9/2006)

58-Mohsen Armin the spokesman of “Islamic Revolution’s Mojaheds Organization” after expressing objections on closing “Shargh” news paper and the monthly magazines “Nameh”, “Hafez”,and “Khatereh” and increasing pressures on presses, and social institutions and by regarding to the death of Valiolah Feyz Mahdavi, said: the number of the death of political prisoners in prisons in recent months are fearful, and also fearful news on prisons’ condition and political prisoners situation are heard. These events show the irresponsibility of judiciary forces which is not really strange. He added that in the case of the death of Valiolah Feyz Mahdavi the reson of death has been announced as heart attack which could be the main reason of the most deaths and it shows that the authorities do not want to notice the main reason of his death.(ILNA 12/9/2006)

59-By publishing a manifestation the Iranian Authors Society expresses that: new cycle of restrictions has been begun in recent weeks and it has made some concerns. It seems that cultural authorities and judiciary institutions are insisting on continuing the repressive manners and increasing the censorship. The questionable death of Akabar Mohammadi and now the death of Valiolah Feyz Mahdavi, Mojahed political prisoner after just 10 days of hunger strike and also fearful news about the other political prisoners are really regrettable.(Advar News 15/9/2006)

60-Mohammad Javad Haghshenas director in charge of “Etemad Melli” newspaper said: 2 o’clock in the morning for persons in a car had thrown 3 napalm bombs to the office building of this newspaper, he added that it was the third time that somebody has attacked there.(ILNA 16/9/2006)

61-Abdollah Moemeni spokesman of Islamic Iran Educates said: with the order of judiciary force the security forces have entered the office of this organization and searched every where for 4 hours and took all documents, files and….(ILNA 19/9/2006)

62-Kaveh Anvari, Khaled Rasooli, Varya Karimi, Hive Noori, Vatan Ebadi, and Jian Kamkar, all from Nodasheh charged with supporting a political opposition Kurd party were summoned to 1^st Branch Kermanshah Islamic Revolution’s Court for the trial.(Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK 11/9/2006)

63-Mahmood Salehi and Najibeh Salehzadeh the labor activists of the city of Saghez with complaint of a security officer were summoned to Saghez General court for trial.( Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK 20/9/2006)

64-Emadedin Baghi, chair man of “Prisoners Rights Defending Association” was interrogated in revolution’s judiciary house branch 14, with the offence of dispatching a group of the members of the association to a workshop on human rights, organizing in UAE.(ILNA 3/9/2006)

65-Abdollah Ramezan Zadeh, Katami’s cabinet spokesman, charged with publishing lies with the aim of disturbing public opinion was interrogated in judiciary house for offences committed by government employees branch 3^rd, with complaint of public prosecutor.(ILNA 10/9/2006)

66-Jila Baniyaghoob editor in chief of internet site “Iranian women society” and women and society page writer of “Sarmayeh” newspaper because of attending in women gathering in June 12^th on charge of acting against the security of the state was tried in Tehran’s Islamic Revolution’s Court Branch 14.(Amir Kabir 22/9/2006)

67-Yoosef Azizi Bani Taraf member of Iranian Authors Society, charged with propaganda against the state was interrogated in Tehran’s Islamic Revolution’s Court Branch 14. He was released on bail of 1,000,000 Rials. Although his daughter scientifically was accepted for master educations but the university did not register her.(ILNA 22/9/2006)

68-Mohammad Saleh Nasri, Fatah Reza Zadeh, Abbas Reza Zadeh, Seyed Hadi Heydari, Peyman Mehri, Mohammad Vatankhah, Loghman Mohammadi, Saman Biglari, and Mostafa Tofighi detainees of last year Saghez protestations charged with acting against the national security, were tried in 1 branch of Saghez Islamic Revolution’s Court.( Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK 29/8/2006)

69-Reza Abbasi member of Islamic Iran’s Educates and the member of Azerbayjan Political Prisoners Defending Committee, charged with propaganda against the state and insulting the leadership was tried behind the closed doors. He was detained 86 days ago. (ILNA 12/9/2006)

70-Mohammad Ali Dadkhah the attorney at law and member of human rights defenders society, because of accepting the attorney ship of the chairman of Islamic Association of Arak University and charged with making anarchy was tried with complaint of public prosecutor.(ILNA 16/9/2006)

71-Saleh Kamrani the attorney at law, charged with propaganda against the statewas tried in Tehran’s Islamic Revolution’s Court.(ISNA 16/9/2006)

72-Khalil Bahramian attorney at law of Akbar Mohammadi, Ahmad Batebi and Heshmatollah Tabarzadi, charged with insulting authorities of Evin prison and Fabrication was tried in the court for offences committed by government employees.(ILNA 17/6/2006)

73-Seyed Ahmad Shatiat the leader of Gonabad Nemaoolahi Dervishes in Qom, his attorney at law Gholamreza Harsini and Bahrami another member of dervishes charged with disturbing public order were tried in Qom’s penal court branch 101.(ILNA 18/9/2006)

Political, Cultural, and Social Activists: Arrests

74-Security forces of Bookan Township attacked the residential house of Rahman Aslani the member of Kurdestan Human Rights Defending Organization in the absence of himself and they arrested his son Kaveh Aslani. His computer, books and journals have been confiscated by them.( Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK 30/8/2006)

80-The 65 year old Abbas Asgari Zadeh because of traveling with one of his son to Iraq for visiting were sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment on charge of cooperating with MOahedin-e-Khalgh Organization and transferred to section number 350 of Evin prison. 108-After the 8 days sit-in of 57 labors of “Pardis” weaving factory in Sanandaj, security forces attacked to them and their families with lachrymatory gas and beat them. A number of these labors were injured. Akoo Kord Nasab journalist of the closed weekly magazine “Payam-e-mardom” and Ebrahim Vakili brother of one of the labors working in this unit were detained on charges of illegal sit-in, and disturbing public order and they were released on bail the next day. Doubtful Deaths

154-Valiollah Feyz Mahdavi who had been in Gohardasht prison since 2001 on charge of contacting Mojahedin Khalgh Iran Organization through a manifestation noticed his requests as following: 1- visiting his attorneys, 2-transferring to Evin prison, 3-communication of no execution to Gohardasht prison’s authorities. He started his hunger strike on August 26^th. He died after 10 days in a doubtful way.
