In this report a little part of the human rights violations instances in Iran has been compiled

Bans on Student Publications

1) Student magazine Ghezil Ozoun and its editor-in-chief Reyhaneh Poorghani were banned following charges leveled for publishing an article which focused on human right violations. The article’s main topic was the reason for conviction and subsequent imprisonment of Abbas Lessani, a political activist in Azerbaijan province, who was charged with fomenting separatism and propagating discrepancies between Turks and Fars ethnic groups. 2) One issue of the student publication Char Barg, formerly published by the students of Allame Tabatabayi University, was banned due to a special report on the recent unrest in Kurdistan province. (Shargh 12/12/2005 )

3) The student day ceremony in Gilan medical school was annulled under the order of the supervisory committee of Iranian universities. (Advar News 4/12/2005)

4) The student day ceremony in “Elm va Sanat University was annulled under the order of the supervisory committee of Iranian universities. This gathering titled “students movement in a half century of campaign” was expected to be conduct through speeches addressed by Ali Akbar Mousavi Khoeiniha, Mohammad Ali Abtahi, Mohsen Mirdamadi and Reza Alijani. 5) Student’s day congregation in the University of Sistan-Baloochestan City was cancelled under the order of the supervisory committee of Iranian universities. (Advar News 4/12/2005)

6) In reaction to the assault on students and violations of human rights, the students then declared a three-day hunger r strike in an effort to request the release of political prisoners. (Advar news 4/12/2005)

7) A student event organized by Tarbiat Moalem University in City of Sabzevar where Lotfollah Meisami editor-in-chief of Cheshm Andaaz Iran magazine, was named to deliver a speech on the occasion of the student’s day was cancelled under the order of the supervisory committee of Iranian universities. 13) Student’s day congregation in Tarbiyat Moalam University of Karaj was cancelled under the order of the supervisory committee of Iranian universities. Ebrahim Yazdi and Mohammad Seifzadeh were set to make speeches at the ceremony. (ISNA 9/12/2005)

14) The student day ceremony in Al Zahra University was annulled under the order of the supervisory committee of Iranian universities. 15) Student’s day congregation in Nahavand University was cancelled and some members of the Islamic Association of students were threatened and inquired by the university chief and all the other security organs. 16) The student day congregation and the commemoration ceremony of the contemporary poet Mehdi Akhavan Saless in Khomeini University of Ghazvin was annulled under the order of the supervisory committee of Iranian universities.(Emrooz 14/12/2005)

Student convicted in Court

18) Akbar Atri, a former member of the Central council of Daftar Tahkim Vahdat, , was tried in Branch No.20 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran and subsequently sentenced to five years of imprisonment and five years of deprivation from social rights. He was charged with the arranging of illegal gatherings, initiating attacks against the security of the state, giving speeches in universities with the aim of spreading propaganda against the state, insulting the authorities, blasphemy, the spreading of lies and disobeying the police order. 19) Farid Modaresi, the student of the Alame Tabatabaei University was tried in Branch No.26 of the Revolutionary court of Tehran and subsequently sentenced to eight months of suspension imprisonment. He was charged with supporting the human rights of Hashem Aghajari in Dec 2002and attempt against the security of the state.(ILNA 7/12/2005)

20) Ali Pasbar, the student of Tabriz University was tried in Branch No.2of the Revolutionary court of Bokan province and subsequently sentenced to three years of imprisonment. He was charged with, initiating attacks against the security of the state, making disturbance, illegal frontier pass, and cooperating with Kurds ethnic group He was also under arrest during the public objections in summer.( Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK 13/12/2005)

21) Mohammad Khani the student of the Alame Tabatabaei University was sentenced to one semester deprivation of continuing education by the disciplinary committee of the Iranian universities. He was charged with participating in an illegal gathering in front of the university, persuading students to take refuge in the dormitory for the presidential election results and damaging the properties of the university.( Ashoob Web Site 18/12/2005)

22) Amir Hossein Balali the Amir Kabir University student was charged by the revision court of Tehran to pay one million Tomans as a cash fine. (ILNA 18/12/2005)

23) Abdollah Momeni the former member of the central association of Daftar Tahkim Vahdat was tried in Branch No.2of the Tehran Revolutionary and subsequently sentenced to five years of imprisonment and five years deprivation of the social rights. The complaint was filled by the public prosecutor. He was charged with initiating attacks against the security of the state, spreading propaganda against the state, making speeches and interviews against the government.(ISNA 14/12/2005)

Student Interrogated

24) Armin Salmasi, the editor-in-chief of the student magazine Sepideh, was interrogated under the allegation of spreading lies in an effort to disturb the public opinion and planning attacks against the national security. The complaint was filed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, in branch No.6 of the Government’s Employees Court. (ILNA 14/12/2005)

Students arrested

25) Two female students of the Law School of Tehran University were arrested by the private security guards and subsequently transferred to an unknown place. (Emrooz 7/12/2005)

Student discharged from university

26) Amir Reza Ardalan a third year student of the privet university of Shahreza ,was discharged from the university and subsequently was prohibited of continuing, education with the request of the security service of the province and the disciplinary committee of the Iranian universities. He was charged with, initiating attacks against the security of the state. (ILNA 21/12/2005)

27) Aireza Ardalan the student of the Alame Tabatabaei University was dismissed from the dormitory under the order of the disciplinary committee of the Iranian universities. (Aftab 6/12/2005)

Student beating

28) Sina Sahraneshin the student of the Kurdistan University was beaten by a security guard of the university and he was subsequently transferred to the hospital. (ISNA 22/11/2005)

29) The Islamic Association of the students in the Law and Political Science faculty of the Tehran University, was attacked and the students got beaten by the advocates of the Amid Zakani the appointed head of the Tehran University ,under the pretext of insulting the clergy. ( 28/11/2005)

Student Summoned to the court

30) Davood Dashtbaani the secretary of the Islamic Association of the Tehran University students was summoned to the branch No.6 of the Government’s Employees court, under the accusation of insulting the clergy. (ISNA 28/11/2005)

31) Mehdi Makaremi and four other students of the Shahrkord University, were summoned to the court, under the accusation of blasphemy and disturbing the university order (ISNA 29/11/2005)

32) Davood Hasanpoor the TEHRAN university student was summoned to the branch No.15 of the Tehran Revolutionary court for trial. (ILNA 4/12 /2005)

33) The Islamic Association of the Zanjan university students’ had announced the name of some of their members that were arrested, trialed and punished during the years 1998 to 2005, by the security guards. as follow :Ahmad Emdadi, Ali Asghar Zolghadr, Saeed Naiimi,Reza Abbasi, Abdalsamad Mohammadi, Abbas Shahbaazi, Rahim Hasanitabaar ,Omid Madani, Hojat Montazeri, Mehran Godarzyar, Sepidee Gorji, Zeinab Keshavarz.(Advar News 6/12/2005)

34) Soraya Azizpanaah the chief maneger of the Rassan magazine was summoned to the first branch of the public court of Marivan province, under the accusation of distributing lies.(ISNA 23/11/2005)

35) Reza Haghighat Nejad, the editor-in-chief of the Khatam Yazd magazine had received a written notice from the ministry of culture and Islamic Guidance, under the accusation of publishing articles against the public chastity and insulting the religious citizens of Yazd province. 36) Ahmad Safaiifar the chief in charge of the banned magazine AKHBAR was summoned to the public Tehran court with the public prosecutors’ complaint. (ILNA 2/12/2005)

37) The chief in charge of the Sobh Javan magazine was summoned with the pubic prosecutors’ complaint to the Government’s Employees court for publishing an article which focused on the Indian Cinema, with the charge of dissemination of prohibited and against the public chastity articles.(ILNA 3/12/2005)

38) Kevan Samimi ,the chief in charge of the Namee magazine had received a written notice from the ministry of culture and Islamic Guidance for publishing an article which focused on the Iran atomic crisis .The election supervisory council had declared that the article subject was against the national interests.(ILNA 28/11/2005)

39) Saeed Hajariyan the chief in charge of the banned magazine Sobh Emrooz ,was summoned to the branch no. 1083 of the Tehran public court, under the accusation of publishing lies on the aim of disturbing the public opinions.(ILNA 3/12/2005)

40) The chief in charge of the Zaman weekly magazine was summoned to the Tehran public court, with the complaint of the city council of Lavassanat, under the accusation of publishing lies on the aim of disturbing the public opinions. (ILNA 3/12/2005)

41) The chief in charge of the Mahd Iran magazine was summoned to the branch no.1083 of the Tehran public court with the public prosecutor complaint, under the accusation of publishing lies on the aim of disturbing the public opinions. (ILNA 4/12/2005)

43) Keyvan Samimi the chief in charge of the Namee magazine had received a notice from the press supervisory council of the ministry of culture and Islamic Guidance for publishing Dr.Habiballah Peiman and Dr. Jalal Jalalizadeh s’ articles on the issue no.41 of the magazine (ILNA 6/12/2005)

44) Lotf Allah Meisami, the chief in charge of the Cheshm Andaaz Iran magazine was summoned to the branch no.76 of the Tehran penal court with the public prosecutor complaints with the charge of publishing lies for disturbing the public opinions, calumniating and insulting. (ISNA 11/12/2005)

Press: Journalists interrogated

46) Hamid Reza Jalaeipoor the chief in chief of the banned magazine Nosazi was summoned to the branch no.1083 of the Tehran public court with the charge of offending the press law. He was released on bail. (ILNA 23/11/2005)

47) The chief in charge of the Eftekhar magazine was interrogated in the branch no.7 of the government employees’ court of Khoozestan province, with the complaint of judicial authorities under the accusation of distributing lies for disturbing the public opinions. (ILNA 13/12/2005)

48) AbdAllah Naseri the former managing director of the Islamic Republic of Iran news agency IRNA, was tried in branch no.1083 of the public Tehran court with the complaint of public prosecutor .he was charged with the publishing of a statistic report on establishing relationships between Iran and United States, under the accusation of publishing lies for disturbing the public opinion. It should be mentioned that this statistic was done on the demand of the national security and foreign policy commission of the Islamic consultative assembly of Iran.( ISNA 23/11/2005)

49) Ali Reza Khoshandam the chief in charge of the Ravanshenasi Jamee magazine was tried in branch no.76 of the Tehran penal court. He was charged with publishing and disturbing the issues against the public chastity. (ISNA 3/12/2005)

50) Majid Ghasemi Feizabadi, the former chief in charge of the banned magazine NASIM SABA was tried in the branch no.76 of the Tehran penal court, with the complaint of the public prosecutor. He was charged with publishing lies and propaganda against the state, through publishing the opinions of Mehdi Karoobi, Hossein Ansari Rad, Ali Shakoori Rad, on Zahra Kazemi’s murder case and the opinions of Masha Allah Shamsalvaeezin, regarding making release of Saeed Asgar, and the opinions of Saeed Hajariya, under the title of “reformation “(ILNA 4/12/2005)

51) Nahid Pirvar the chief in charge of the Sobh Karaj magazine, was tried in the branch no.76,of the Tehran penal court with the complaint of Sepah Pasdaaraan and the public prosecutor with charge of distributing lies and calumny for disturbing the public opinions.(ISNA 4/12/2005)

52) Ali Noroozi the chief in charge of the Khorshid Nimrooz magazine was tried in the branch no.76 of the Tehran penal court with the charge of allocating one issue of his magazine to the subject of oppositions against the war in Iraq, under the accusation of publishing pictures and articles against the public chastity. 53) Massood Fakhri Tabatabaii, the chief in charge of the Cinema-e- Emroz magazine was tried in the branch no.76 of the Tehran penal court, with the charge of using the individuals’ images in the publication. (ISNA. 11/12/2005)

54) Negar Eskandarfar the chief in charge of the banned magazine Karname was tried with the complaint of the press observation committee and the public prosecutor ,in the branch no.76 of the Tehran penal court on the cause of publishing the story of “ dozd mona dar se keshvar “, He was charged with publishing articles against the public chastity and morality. 55) Javad Dehghani Tafti, the correspondent of the Hambastegi magazine was tried, with the complaint of the Yazd province, justice court head, in the branch no.1083 of the Tehran public court. He was charged with publishing lies with the aim of disturbing the public opinions.(ILNA. 17/12/2005)

56) Isa Khan Hatami the chief in charge of the Iran Mehr magazine was tried in branch no.76 of the Tehran penal court, with the charge of propaganda against the government, affronting and calumniating against the Guard Council .(ILNA 18/12/2005)

57) Mohammad Vakili the chief in charge of the Ebtekar magazine was tried in the branch no.76 of the Tehran penal court. He was charged with publishing lies and propaganda against the state.(ILNA 2005,12,18)

58) Ali Yousef pour the chief in charge of the Siasat-e-Rooz magazine was tried in the branch no.76 of the Tehran penal court. He was charged with publishing lies..(ILNA 18/12/2005)

59) Roya Toloii, Ejlal Ghavami, Saeed Saedi, the Kurd ethic group correspondents were released on bail. They were arrested during the last August public objections in Sanandaj province and were under the torture in the solitary confinement for 66 days. They were judged as the combatant against the Islam and were charged with organizing the public demonstration in Sanandaj province and attempting against the security of state. (IRNA 21/12/2005)

Press: sentences issued by court

60) Madeh Ahmadi a member of the writing council of the banned magazine Aso was released on bail after four months of temporary detentions. He will be trying in the revolutionary court of Marivan province with the charge of attempting against the national security, interviewing the foreign Medias, distributing lies for disturbing the public opinions and accusing the state for violations against the human rights. The above named is also sentenced to one year of imprisonment and 50 lashes for illegal exit of the frontier. It should be mentioned that, this correspondent was released after going on hunger strike and sewing his mouth. (ILNA 7/11/205)

61) The 2 years imprisonment sentence of the Mojtaba Samiee Nejad was confirmed by the high cassation court, under the accusation of insulting Mr.Khameneii.(Advar News 12/12/2005)

62) Gholi Sheikhi the chief in charge of the Tose’e magazine was tried in Tehran penal court, branch no.76, and was subsequently sentenced to pecuniary fine and two years of suspension imprisonment. He was charged with publishing lies and propaganda against the state. (ILNA 18/12/2005)

63) Ali Saleh Abadi the chief in charge of the HAMBASTEGI magazine was sentenced in Tehran penal court, branch no.76, to one year, suspension imprisonment. He was charged with publishing lies for disturbing the public opinions. (ILNA 20/12/2005)

The banned books

64) As Mohammad Javad Mozafar the chief in charge of the Kavir publications said; the book named Faryad-e-kooy a narration of the ‘kooy-daneshgaah’’ event in July 2000, written by Davood Roshani ,and another book named “Mohammad Ali Frooghi and the Modern Civil Fundamentals written by Ali Asghar Haghdar , did not get the publishing permits from the ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.(Emrooz 27/11/2005)

The Social-Political Activists

67) The ceremony in commemoration of Majid Sharif, one of the victims of serial murders in Iran, in his seventh year of being suppressed was annulled by the security forces.(ILNA.24/11/2005)

68) Mashallah Shamsalvaezin the spokesman of the liberty of the press, defend organization ,said: the rights of liberty of speech, liberty of publishing the news, and self and employment security of the journalists in Iran is critical and the situation becomes even worst after the election of the new government. As the above named has mentioned, now a days all the information and news sources are blocked and the government officially censors every things such as press, books and movies in Iran.(Rooz 21/12/2005)

The social- political activists: summoned to the court

69) Mohammad Zaher Ahmadi Poor, Hajar Razavi and Naser Yousefi that were under detention for 40 days during the public objections in Baneh province and were subsequently released on bail, were summoned to the Saghez Revolutionary court. They were charged with causing disturbance and having connections with Hayat Azad Kurdistan party. (Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK 27/11/2005)

70) Mohammad Ali Dadkhah the ministry of justice attorney and member of human right defender was summoned to the branch no.7 of the government’s employees court.(ILNA.2/12/2005)

71) 51 persons were arrested during the Saghez province public objections by the security guards and 48 of them were subsequently released on bail. They are now summoned to the Saghez province revolutionary court to be trialed. They were charged with attempting against the security of state and were torture severely. 72) Reza Alijani, Taghi Rahmani,Hoda Saber and Amir Tayarani the members of national-religious party were trialed privately in Tehran Revolutionary court, branch no.26. They were charged with propaganda against the state, making illegal groups and gatherings and colluding for committing crimes. (ISNA 20/12/2005)

73) Mehdi Aminizadeh, Mohammad Rezai, Mikaiil Azimi and Ali Asghar Sadeghi the members of SEPEHR ANDISHEH NOVIN organization were trialed privately in Tehran revolutionary court. They were charged with forming illegal organizations, propaganda against the state, gathering and colluding. They were also arrested during the student’s objections in M ay 2003 (ILNA 21/12/2005)

74) Saman Rasolpoor a member of the human right defense in Kordestan province was arrested by Mahabad province court order. He was charged with spreading lies trough interviewing with foreign Medias and proclamation of his hunger strike and the pressures were on him during his previous detention. 75) Yashar Hakak Poormaraghi a member of private association KHANEH FARZANDAN AZARBAYJAN was summoned to the security guard organization. in Maragheh..(Peik-e-Iran 27/11/2005)

The social-political activists: sentences issued by the court

76) Reza Amini, Helmet Azarpoor and AbdAllah Mohamadi were each sentenced to 20, 15, 15 years of imprisonment. in branch no.2 of the Mahabad revolutionary court. They were charged with cooperating with the Kurdestan democrat party and attempting against the security of the state. These prisoners were before on hunger strike in Tabriz prison.(ILNA 28/11/2005)

77) The six months suspension imprisonment sentence of Masoud Khaleghi,Maziyar Aslani and Mehrdad Seid Asgari .the political activists, with the charge of propaganda against the state was confirmed in the Tehran revision court.(ISNA.6/12/2005)

78) Saeed Kalanaki the former secretary of Student committee of human rights reporters was sentenced to 3 years of suspension imprisonment in branch no.26 of the Tehran revolutionary court. He was charged with being member in the illegal parties and participating in the illegal gathering. He was arrested during the students’ objections in June 2003 and was released on bail. 79) Shahram PoorMansouri ,Farhang Poor Mansouri and Hojat Zamani the political prisoners of the RAJAII SHAHR prison have announced a hunger strike on protection of Javid Tehrani , Asad Shaghaghi and Khaled Hardani that had announced their hunger strike two weeks ago.( Student Committee of Political Prisoners Defenders 28/11/2005)

80) Masoud Bastani the chief in charge of the banned magazine NEDA-Y-ESLAHAT in his one hundred days of being in jail had announced during a letter that he is in an awful situation and he is expose to all kind of diseases in prison and his only accusation is to support the human rights activists and attempting to support the political prisoners such as Hashe Aghajari,Abass Abdi, Naser Zarafshan,Taghi Rahmani, Akbar Ganji and…. As the public prosecutor insists, he can be released just in case of declaring his regret and repentance of what he has done.(Iran-E-Man 30/11/2005)

81) The detention order of Abdalfatah Soltani a member of human right defender committee was extended for two more months. He was the defending attorney of Zahra Kazemi,Akbar Ganji and some other political activists, students and journalists. He has been in temporary detention for 4 months and none of his attorney could visit him.(ILNA 5/12/2005)

82) Ebrahim Momeni the political activist that is in prison for 5 years without knowing his consequence had announced that he is in very dangerous health situation and the managers of the prison don’t accept that he need an urgent surgery.( Student Committee of Political Prisoners Defenders 9/12/2005)

83) Firooz Abofarhan,Ali Doraghi,Karim Doraghi ,the Arab-Iranian activists were arrested in the AID FETR demonstration. Also 81 persons were arrested there. The international forgiveness organization demanded Iran to release them or reveal their detention barrack, or explain the reason of their arrestment. They asked Iranian government not to torture them if then are not going to release them. (Peik-e-Iran10/12/2005)

Collective arrestments

84) The disciplinary guard of the Arak province had arrested 72 persons under the accusation of obscene acts and turned them over to the judicial authorities. (Etemad 1/12/2005)

85) The disciplinary guards had arrested 18 men and 22 women and turned them to the judicial authorities .they were charged with attending in a party, acting against the public chastity and drinking the alcoholic liquors.(Iran 4/12/2005)

86) The disciplinary guard of the Lahijan province had arrested 4 women and 5 men under the accusation of obscene acts and turned them over to the judicial authorities. (Etemad 5/12/2005)

87) As the Mashad province disciplinary guard commander, Mohsen Beigi said: in 10 days during the Zafar plan they have arrested 330 men with the accusation of being rascal. 65% of them were between 15 and 25 ranges of ages. (ISNA 13/12/2005)

88) As the Mazandaran province court head, Folad Amoli said: 11 women and 9 men were arrested in an x-party in Noshahr and were sent to jail. They are due o be trialed in branch no.102 of the province penal court. They were charged with acting against the public chastity, drinking alcohol and having the satellite equipments. 89) As the revision court supervisor Hojat –al-Islam Ghoreishi said: having sentences such as lashing, long imprisonments, exile and execution show the decisiveness of the province penal court. He mentioned that during the current year 604 persons were sentenced to be lashed and 27 of them were lashed in public view and also 641 persons were sentenced to imprisonment. (ISNA 2312/2005)

Sentenced to death

90) A woman was sentenced to death in branch no.71 of the Tehran penal court with the confirmation of the state high cassation court. She had murdered a 7 years old boy. (ISNA 22/11/2005)

91) Ramin, 22 years old, was sentenced to death in Tehran penal court, branch no.71.with the charge of killing Sofia, 21years old.(Shargh 27/11/2005)

101) As the Ghom province revision court supervisor Hojat –al-Islam Ghoreishi said: the penal court of this province is allocated to the crimes which have the sentences such as: execution, stone to death and the press offences. 103) Daryoosh, the Shiraz Azad university student was killed by knife strokes in the university class. (Etemad 22/11/2005)

104) The bodies of Sheikh Hassan Rastegar, 80 years old, the leader of the Sunnite community in Kermanshah, and his son, Mohammad, were found in the mosque yard. The acid and knife strokes’ marks were distinguished on the bodies. (Kurdistan Human Rights Organization – RMMK 25/11/2005)

105) An Iranian Turkman, Ghorban Toori, who had converted to Christianity 11 years ago and was selected as the protestant leader of the province was murdered calamitously. Some of his confederates told the Christian sites that they were also interrogated and threatened by the security guards. It should be mentioned that the priests: Mehdi Dibaj, Hapik Hospian Mehr,Tathous Mikailian ,Mohammad Bagher Yousefi and Hossein Shahjmali were also killed by the security guards with the charge of converting to Christianity. 106) As Ms. Dian Alai the representative of the Bahá'ís community in the U.N said: Zabih Allah Mahrami, who was prisoner for 10 years, in the charge of converting to Bahaisme, was died doubtfully in prison.
